Synth Samurai isn't my actual name, obviously. It is, however, a name which those within the Halo community know me by. In the non-digital world, I am a professional games industry consultant and educator. I hold a bachelors of Literature/Writing (emphasis in Science Fiction/Fantasy) from the University of California San Diego as well as two associates degrees in general studies in media and literature, respectively. In addition, I am well versed in most professional business roles such as marketing, project management and community relations.
I dwell within science fiction, I live it, breath it and it runs through me as does my own blood. I grew up reading Larry Niven, Robert Heinlein, Joe Haldeman, David Brin, Phillip K Dick and many others. The franchises which have defined me run from Ridley Scott's Blade Runner & Alien, to Japanese anime such as Akira.
As you may have guessed, I am a tried and true, to the core gamer. "Passionate" is not the correct word for my feelings towards this industry, it goes far beyond that. Since my first experience with Nintendo's SNES, I have been apart of this incredible and unique industry. Even as a lad, I knew where I wanted my career to go.
As far as my games preference? From DOS DOOM, to modern day games, I have played, and play it all.
But this franchise, Halo, has always been special to me. Since 2001, when I first explored Installation 04, it has driven my passion for the industry further and inspired me in ways very little else has. Its world, characters and themes, speak to not only myself but millions of others who follow the franchise day to day.
These articles started out on the HaloStory subreddit. However, I felt those who read my articles deserved a better format and presentation than what was offered. That is why, this humble little blog, lost in the far reaches of the internet exists. It's a place for discussion of this incredible universe started by Bungie, and tended to now by 343 Industries. From the inspired narratives which drive the series forward, to its "ahead of its time" themes and motifs. This blog will cover it all, not just the good, but what needs work as well. friendly critique is the most effective form of progress when it comes to narrative development, after all.
Sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy this fan's take on the Halo narrative.
